L'Alsaco Description:
The whimsical Klaus Steger sold his discreet, front-windowed "winstub" to a Chinese couple that continues to serve simple and tasty Alsatian cuisine and one of the best choucroutes in Paris. Tang Vaij, a native of Canton, landed in this location after becoming enamored with Alsatian wines. Here, he keeps a close watch on the prices and jealously looks after the specialties of the house. The Preskopf and the bacon and potato salad are by the book, and the top specialty remains the choucroute, "La Formidable," served with eight different meats. It is best to end with a selection of Munster and skip the desserts, unless you opt for the Gewürtztraminer sherbet. With more than 400 selections, the list of wines is impressive and you may want to taste a white eau-de-vie from Alsace, 6 € for 3cl.
