Heres what I ordered,
1 Vegetable Tempura App
1 Sake Hara w/ Salt
1 Toronto Roll
1 mini-sukiyaki
1 Chirashi A
1 Hotategai sashimi
First off.... the bowl of salad was bad, it was "room temperature" and later found out why when leaving the restaurant because they were all just sitting in front of the sushi bar, pre made.
The order of the food was all wrong, appetizers came after main courses, and we had all kinds of different people serving us, sushi bar chefs, kitchen staff... aren't we supposed to only deal with 1 server?
Anyways, we had the Toronto Roll first, which came really fast, it looked okay, but the rice was horrible. It tasted like pre-made, and lots of pressure was applied when rolling it, so all the rice was mushed together. I felt that grocery stores even had better made maki rolls. Anyays, it was a disgusting experience. Fine quality sushi says that we're supposed to feel every grain of rice, but the rice in this roll was all mushed together, the avocados were a bit "black" suggesting it was premade or old.
Then suprisingly, the Chirashi "A" came. We immediately checked the rice, which wasn't as mushed, maye because it didn't require rolling. However, the daikon/radish garnishes were a bit brownish/yellow suggesting they were "old" as well. Very bad for a sashimi plate which is supposed to suggest everything is "fresh". We were wondering where our appetizers were at this point, and why my girlfriend was served a main course first, and they didn't arrive together.
The next thing to come was the mini-sukiyaki, which looked very very different from the photo in the menu. The one we received was very plain, and when i first tasted the broth it was as sweet as coke. I couldn't believe anyone could serve anything that sweet.
Our vegetable tempura appetizer arrived very shortly after, and the dipping sauce for the tempura tasted like nothing because it was so flavourless. We ended up dipping them into the sukiyaki broth. The beef, despite its fattiness was very soft and smooth.
Then the sake-hara arrived which was normal, very nciely done no complaints here. The hotetagai (scalllop) sashimi was also acceptable.
Overall, the dining experience was bad because we had different servers bring us food from the kitchen /sushi bar as soon as they completed it , which also led to the huge mixup of basic appetizer-main course- dessert order. We didn't even bother ordering dessert because we were so upset. Then there is obvious food qualitiy issues mentioned above. Bad sushi rice, and inconsistent hot food quality. The sukiyaki was really really too sweet, and as it boiled down, it just got worse. I hope you guys really tell the person whi made it.
Unfortunately I do not think I will come back again, there are much better Japanese restaurants in the Markham/Richmond Hill area.
