Sweetwater Tavern Description:
A few years after the millennium, Sweetwater Tavern was a mecca for the hipster neighborhood's grungiest. It was dirty and dodgy, but they made a potent cocktail. All that disappeared, except for the potent cocktails, when the beloved spot was sold and re-opened as a French-inspired tavern, serving upscale dishes to a growing demographic in Williamsburg: foodies. But you don't have to be a B-Burg gourmand to enjoy this tin-walled and -ceilinged eatery (in fact, Manhattanites regularly make the trek). Dive into the roasted sweet potato cannelloni stuffed with ricotta, spinach and almonds, and flavored with a rich sage butter sauce. Or the pork tenderloin---three pieces of pork wrapped in prosciutto---accompanied by green apple and potato mash. It's hard to miss on a menu this good. Which is why few people actually miss the old Sweetwater.
