Maybe it is the convivial air husband and wife proprietors Jimmy and Mary Beth exude as they greet each diner at the entranceway, ever ready to please. Or the décor---large dark wood French doors welcoming you, and an off-white flowered-tile floor set against exposed brick. The bistro fare includes a starter of mussels, the natural flavors of which are preserved in a light broth of lemon, white wine and hints of thyme. Though most of the menu changes, the hanger steak frites is a mainstay; the Red Hat version is topped with both béarnaise and a red wine reduction making for a good combination, particularly served next to the crispy frites. A solid wine list specializing in simple but elegant French selections enhances the experience, and homemade desserts, like a refreshing Key lime pie, add the final touch separating this bistro from others playing strictly by the numbers.
