Conical lamps along the walls and hanging from the ceiling cast a soft, warm glow over the long bar with parquet detailing and dark leather banquettes. Beyond this front bar area is the dining room, where stained glassed windows and white-clothed tables complete the restaurant's unassuming and inviting atmosphere. The New American cuisine with fusion accents includes a notably fresh sautéed tuna salad; the yellowfin is as fine in quality as any you would get at a sushi restaurant. For something heartier, try the Maine crab cakes: thick chunks of sinewy crab meat with roasted garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables, a cut above the too-often-found overly breaded versions. For those favoring selections from land rather than sea, the grilled flat-iron steak accompanied by red beans, rice and fried plantains is just as well-prepared and satisfying. The wine list spans the globe and offers a few nice selections by the glass.
