Beast Restaurant Description:
This Prospect Heights tapas spot is not as scary as it sounds. In fact, with stained glass, a classic tile floor, outside seating, and a thick wooden bar to cozy up to, Beast is downright welcoming. The menu is categorized by Earth, Land & Sky, and Ocean. The Blue Point Lager-braised short ribs are tender and on the tasteless side, but are saved by the creamy mashed potatoes they wade in; sautéed calamari is nicely cooked, accompanied by tomato, arugula and roasted garlic; the fried manchego cheese bits explode with flavor but the black-bean hummus tastes like neither black beans nor hummus. The wine list, naturally, focuses on Spain and ten or so beers on tap are mostly of the American microbrew variety.
