South Brooklyn Pizza Description:
Don't expect to be given a menu after sitting down at this 30-seat, quasi-hidden pizza spot in Carroll Gardens. That's because there's only one thing on the menu: pizza. Specifically, owner-chef Jim McGown's Neapolitan version of a margherita which includes San Marzano tomatoes and a combination of pecorino, Parmigiano and mozzarella di bufala cheeses---all baked in an 1890s coal oven that was originally brought over from the pizza capital, Naples, itself. The low-lit ambience makes for the perfect venue for sampling McGowan's topnotch pies, washed down, of course, with a pint of Peroni. Occasional additional menu items, such as chocolate chip cookies and doughy bread sticks, are a bonus.
