Calexico Carne Asada Description:
Named for a California border town, this Brooklyn Mexican eatery began life as a cart. From there, the owners expanded into a full-blown taqueria, much to the neighborhood's delight. The décor of stucco and Christmas lights is fitting enough for the no-frills but better-than-average Mexican fare. The offerings are fairly typical: large burritos and juicy meat-filled tacos. The rolled quesadilla has proved to be a favorite among regulars. But the best bet is the cheddar grits, a succulent mix of grits, cheese and peppers that could make Calexico (the taqueria, not the border town) a destination in and of itself.
