Pomme Cafe Description:
In the virtual sea of Greek, Italian, Asian, Latin American, Czech and Middle Eastern restaurants that abound in Astoria, Pomme Cafe appeases the neighborhood's appetite for authentic Gallic cuisine. The elegant décor is comprised of a warm cherry wood interior, opulent floral arrangements and walls lined with wine bottles. Pomme has at once the refinement of an upscale wine bar and the rustic touches of an old-world French bistro. The menu includes such traditional hors d'oeuvres as escargot bourguignon (baked vineyard snails in garlic butter) and moules frites (mussels simmered in a saffron and roasted tomato broth). The entrées follow suit with choices ranging from boeuf bourguignon and rabbit stew with caramelized cipollini onions, carrots and turnips with a bean ragoût. The wine list, naturally, focuses on France with a few nice (and affordable) selections by the glass.
