Txkito Description:
This bustling Basque-oriented tapas joint was opened by the former Tía Pol and El Quinto Pino chefs Alex Raij and Eder Montero. Txikito's (pronounced chee-kee-toe) lumber-lined interior feels intimate and spacious at the same time, owing to the high ceilings and the wide glass rolling garage door at the front. The menu is roomy as well, and the dazzlers definitely outnumber the dull. The txiki txanpi, miniature mushroom and shrimp grilled cheese sandwiches, are flavorful and nicely toasted. The txitxiki features a spicy chorizo hash surrounded by crispy, buttery bread, and the pulpo, a tender octopus carpaccio, is drizzled with olive and lemon oils and a dash of hot pepper. Pil pil, salt cod poached in olive oil with kokotxas (cod cheeks), and albóndigas, meatballs in a shellfish sauce, should also not be missed. No worries, though---the portions are small, you'll be able to try many. And it's all best washed down with a glass of wine from the Spain-dominated wine list.
