DeMarchelier Description:
This cozy French bistro is the real thing, right down to the lace curtains, the tightly spaced tables and the mirrors tilted so people facing the wall won't miss the action---not to mention the occasional attitude. Start with the onion soup or a salad dressed with a bracing French vinaigrette made with grainy Dijon mustard; then move on to steak frites, roasted duck, rack of lamb or, on Fridays, choucroute. The owners have also opened a branch called Demarchelier Downtown, which is rather more modern and hip but features a similar menu, at 100 W. Houston St., 212-254-7000.
