This West Village eatery's name implies, perhaps, a gastropub or something very British, but the menu leans heavily toward the Mediterranean and Italy instead. The duck meatballs, which are served in a small cast-iron pot, are juicy, tender and lightly spiced. The cauliflower-cream-filled squid ink agnolotti are nicely prepared with lemon butter and sprinkled with crab. Soft gnocchi with mushrooms are bedded in butternut squash purée. For heartier entrées, the merluza (also known as hake) is a standout; topped with a béarnaise sauce, the fish is flaky yet crispy on the outside. The international wine list includes several affordable bottles.
