Vintage Irving Description:
This Euro-style eatery focuses on small plates and their appropriate pairing with beverages, which include wine, craft beers and absinthe-based cocktails. The rustic feel is countered by high tables as one would find at a sports bar (not surprisingly, nearby sports-oriented Sidebar shares an owner with Vintage Irving). Though not everything on the menu works (Hudson Valley foie gras is marred by tart jelly, escargots is hidden in Valencia-style rice), there are a few reasons to return: grilled octopus has a heavily charred exterior, making the inside bold with flavor; properly cooked pan-seared scallops sit atop blocks of creamy potato salad. Other standout small plates include twin Maine mini crab cakes with mesclun and chipotle vinaigrette, and tuna tartare tacos, with red chili-garlic aïoli and avocado salad. The menu also boasts a build-your-own cheese and meat platter with selections like duck prosciutto and Spanish goats' milk blue cheese.
