Kouzan Description:
This Upper West Side eatery manages to rise above the increasingly stiff sushi competition with well prepared traditional Japanese fare, including a large selection of sushi rolls. Aside from a few house specialties among the rolls and hot appetizers, the menu offers little departure from the classics. Start with the rainbow roll, a generous blend of four types of fish with creamy avocado topped with tobiko, and the grilled Japanese eggplant, flavored with sweet soy sauce. In terms of entrées, deciding between the miso black cod or Chilean sea bass might be the hardest decision you will have to make---so why not go for both? Generous filets of black cod and Chilean sea bass seasoned in miso and herbed soy sauce, respectively. Wash it all down with one of the creative cocktails on offer---the house mojito, accented by a splash of saké, is a favorite.
