Bar Breton Description:
Chef Cyril Renaud, the inspiration behind Fleur de Sel, has once again brought the flavor of his native Brittany back to New York. Rustic with a casually romantic feel, Bar Breton is not quite a brasserie or a bistro but more a medley of the two, offering a menu of modern and traditional French fare with classics from Brittany, notably a selection of Breton galettes, or crêpes. The wild striped bass is simple but the addition of cured bacon provides a nice contrast to the naturally mild flavor of the fish. The eponymous burger is thick, juicy and served on sesame seed brioche; here it is the seasonings that work with the robust flavors of the meat to distinguish what would be a standard brasserie favorite. On the flip side, for a comparatively rare taste of Brittany, the selection of Breton galettes is not to be missed. Among the savory options is the Flatiron Edge, a golden, crispy shell wrapped around a creamy filling of smoked wild salmon, horseradish cream and chives---equally good as a precursor to an entrée or as a standalone dish. The wine list offers a limited but fine selection of very reasonably priced wines by the bottle and several by the glass.
