Cafetasia Description:
Wedged in between pizza take-out counters, shoe shops and piercing parlors, this dimly lit and sleek Eighth Street pan-Asian noodle bar almost goes unnoticed by shoppers and passersby. Which is a shame since Cafetasia has a topnotch ambience (complete with long wooden shared tables, lime-green padded chairs and a votive-lit dark room) with dishes that will hardly make your wallet lighter. Starting with the tasting menu, from the small plates selections, try the summer rolls made of basil, carrot, noodles and marinated tofu; the calamari fritters with a ginger avocado sauce; and the chicken and shrimp shu mai with rice soy vinaigrette. Then move on to the roasted duck in red curry: a simmering dish of basil, chili, pineapple, tomato, pumpkin and roasted red chili in coconut broth. Finish your meal with some flaming fried ice cream with sweet tangerine purée. The reasonably priced, two-course fixed lunch can't be beat.
