If Yum! Kitchen and Bakery were a high-school senior, it would be head cheerleader. It's that popular. Inside the bright, cheery restaurant, a small platoon of red baseball cap-wearing staffers makes sure that the comfort-food fare flies out of the kitchen. Customers order at the counter, selecting from a wide range of tasty appetizers (cute little mini burgers, pot stickers); abundant salads (the steak salad is a category killer); and hefty sandwiches (including a two-fisted half-pound burger on a house-baked bun). Also on offer are textbook matzo ball soup and a changing array of entrées like crispy-skinned roast chicken. The bakery counter really shines, boasting layer cakes groaning under mountains of icing and the kind of tangy lemon bar that you wish you could make but can never quite master.
