La Chaya Bistro Description:
La Chaya Bistro is a culinary mixed marriage---half Italian, half Mexican---that works. Chef/co-owner Juan Juarez Garcia lets his customers pick sides by offering a menu that trades in on his native Mexico and on his experiences working in Italy. That can mean a platter of parchment-thin beef carpaccio finished with herb-infused olive oil, a potato-grilled octopus salad, a plate-size thin-crust pizza garnished with artichokes and prosciutto or a succulent slab of halibut covered in a rich pepita sauce. Make a plan for brunch, when Garcia's wake-up calls include house-made corn tortillas with poached eggs and blazing red sauce, mushroom-cheese empanadas and a small-but-pleasant array of fresh baked goods. The warmly rustic dining room (and pretty patio) bears no resemblance to its former self, a tired KFC franchise.
