Chino Latino Description:
It's obvious from the glitzy, shimmery, no-signage front that you're walking into someplace different. As you continue down the orange padded hallway, you feel like you're not in Minneapolis anymore. Chino Latino is its own hip universe where the Latin music throbs, the beautiful people slide by with funky cocktails and everyone looks great in the glow of the hypnotic orange bar. But don't let the bar scene fool you; Chino's menu has continued to grow and evolve since it opened. Start with some salt-spiked crispy calamari or "Hot and Sticky Jungle Wings" glazed with harissa and hot with habanero, which is guaranteed to jump-start the taste buds. The bigger groups that come to share the large community table would be wise to order the chile-marinated chicken salad with pineapple and passion fruit vinaigrette along with a huge platter of zesty tequila-chipotle shrimp. The "Sushi Loco" selections, including the inside out "Siggy's Naughty White Tiger Roll" (features shrimp and salmon) or the fiery "Wasabi Tuna Drano Balls" are properly askew like much of the humorous menu. You can wash it all down with a signature "Uncle Pho" watermelon martini or any of a wide selection of sakés, including its infamous saké bomb. The wine list is not very extensive, but the list of regional beers and sipping rums is topnotch.
