Cafe Hollander Description:
This two-level bistro, on a triangular, East Side intersection, evokes a from-elsewhere feel with woven-back chairs, flatbreads and cones of pomme frites with curry ketchup. Because the owners strive to emulate the atmosphere at a Belgian pub, it's no surprise that bitterballen (spiced, deep-fried meatballs), split-pea soup and a Belgian cheese plate are appetizer options. All-day breakfast consists of omelets, quiche and granola with yogurt. For lunch and dinner, options run the gamut, from comfort-food staples like mac 'n' cheese with a fiery dash of jalapeño to lighter fare like beets marinated in balsamic vinaigrette with crumbled blue cheese and toasted walnuts. The extensive beer list specializes in brews from Belgium and the Netherlands; get an overview with a flight of four tap beers. On warmer nights, we like to request al fresco seating.
