Spuntino Description:
At this Argentine restaurant, you are paying for real estate---a prime corner in the swank Polanco section of Mexico City, a few steps from the shopping district and across the street from verdant Lincoln Park. The dining room, decorated with red and blue tile, has no walls, so on sunny afternoons or balmy evenings it's a lovely spot for either a romantic tête-à-tête or prime people-watching. The kitchen serves perfectly acceptable, if not illustrious, renderings of the time-honored Argentine menu. Among the best appetizers are empanadas stuffed with meat, corn or spinach; chorizo (Argentine sausage, similar to the sweet Italian variety); and mollejas (grilled sweetbreads). The specialty of the house is grilled steak, of course, either individual cuts or a mixed grill that includes different cuts of beef, sausage and chicken. If you are not in the mood for meat, there are good salads, a few pastas (lasagna, ravioli, tallarines al pesto) and some tasty pizzas, such as the Fabrica (with chorizo and provolone cheese). The wine list includes selections from Mexico, South America and Europe.
