San Angel Inn Description:
An eighteenth-century hacienda that was converted into a Carmelite monastery, later into a hotel and finally a restaurant, the San Angel Inn is without a doubt one of the prettiest places to eat in Mexico City. Particularly on its outdoor patio, with a fountain, flowing bougainvillea and the occasional strolling peacock. Unfortunately, the food, while creditable, is far from electrifying, so you might just want to have appetizers, such as quesadillas, setas al ajillo (wild mushrooms sautéed with garlic and chile) or ceviche on that patio, accompanied by the restaurant's outstanding martinis and margaritas. Should you decide to stay for a full meal, among the best dishes are the chicken in mole sauce, the poblanos stuffed with cheese, or the red snapper in Veracruz sauce (onion, tomato, capers and olives).
