Puerto Madero Description:
This sprawling, somewhat pre-fab-feeling steak emporium could be located anywhere from Houston to Hong Kong. But it is home to some of the best Argentine-style steaks in the city. Puerto's menu is fairly basic, and will be familiar to steakhouse fans: raw bar seafood platters, empanadas and the ubiquitous Caesar salad as well as extravagances like Alaskan king crab legs and Kobe beef. Meanwhile, the steaks and chops, featuring traditional Argentine cuts (all carefully explained on the menu), are topnotch. The bife de lomo, for example---more or less a super-size filet mignon---is nicely aged, just fatty enough, smokily seared on the outside and rare within. A la carte sides (creamed artichoke, "soufflé" and baked potatoes, french fries, etc.) are uniformly well done. For martini lovers, Puerto Madero's version is a real treat in not-entirely-cocktail-literate Mexico City, and wine options are plentiful and reasonably priced. Note: Fairly long waits are the rule and not the exception (odd for D.F. but in truth a good sign) so go elsewhere if you're in a hurry. Service is professional.
