Evita Description:
Slick and surprising (in the Embassy Suites Hotel?), Evita blends boutique style with an ambitious, if traditional, Argentine bill of fare. It attracts businesspeople and well heeled civilians, especially at lunchtime; it's close to downtown on one of the Paseo de la Reforma's grand traffic circles. Looking for variety amid the Argentine usuals, opt for the shrimp empanada with its rich, cheesy filling surrounded by crisp---and not a bit greasy---pastry. Our grilled-to-order steaks, such as the generously proportioned bife de lomo---similar to a T-bone---arrived properly prepared and juicy, if a tad over-salted. On the side, Evita's souffléed potatoes (a high-fat delight and staple at local Argentine joints) disappointed, being little more than glorified potato chips, but other sides (spinach, french fries, garlic mushrooms, etc.) were well executed and flavorful. Service is personalized and uniformly professional, as it should be, since you'll be surprised how quickly the tab runs up, especially if you order wine.
