Casino Español Description:
Located in a splendid, colonial-era building from the late eighteenth century, to get to the Casino Español's enormous dining room you climb up a white marble staircase with hand-painted ceilings and traditional Spanish coats of arms. It's been operating as a formal, white-tablecloth restaurant for nearly 100 years, with well trained and almost overwhelmingly serious waiters. The menu is strictly old-school Spanish, and among the best dishes are pulpos a la gallega (octopus served with coarse salt, paprika and sliced potatoes), lechón asado (roast baby pork) and paella. There are also some Mexican dishes available, such as cabrito (roast kid), and at lunchtime there is a special menu of the day with five courses, a bargain at about $15.
