50 Friends Description:
Among the appetizers are grilled vegetables, an antipasto plate with various cheeses and cold cuts, three kinds of salads and five different carpaccios (of both the surf and turf varieties). There are also a few pastas, and a handful of main courses, but most people come here to eat the thin-crust, Neapolitan-style pizzas, albeit cooked in an electric oven rather than a wood or coal stove. There are traditional pizzas like the cuatro stagioni (with artichoke hearts, ham, olives and mushrooms), and some more inventive varieties, such as pizza pazza (with mozzarella and Gorgonzola cheeses, as well as pear and apple slices). A tasty vegetarian pie is topped with mushrooms, asparagus, eggplant and cherry tomatoes. One appetizer and one pizza are enough for a filling meal for two people. There is a small and pricey wine list, a selection of Mexican beers and a full bar. A cozy space in the trendy Condesa neighborhood, with exposed brick walls adorned with black-and-white photographs, the eatery can feel a bit claustrophobic when full. In the evening, between the conversations of the other diners and the pop music cranked up to please the mostly youthful clientele, 50 Friends is a resolutely noisy place.
