Fausto's Bistro Description:
The DiPietro brothers, Roland and Fausto, learned to cook from their Sicilian mother, and her talents come through in a garlic-pummeled marinara that's spooned onto ricotta-stuffed manicotti, mozzarella with eggplant in carrozza and all sorts of veal and pasta concoctions. Like the charming, comfortable dining room setting itself, the food often seems to speak to the virtues of simple things done right. One particularly notable dish is the speckled trout al limone, which at Fausto's has a leg up on the locally renowned trout meunière. To the lemon and butter is added a tad of white wine, elevating the dish. The fish itself is soft yet firm. We find the shrimp scampi is unusually rife with mushrooms and not much else, and the eggplant Parmesan to be mostly breading and sauce---we're hoping this is an aberration. Fausto's maintains a wine cellar that's modest in size but more than adequate for pairing with the DiPietro brothers' soul-warming cuisine.
