Back Eddy Description:
By the sea dining in a relaxed bistro atmosphere. There is a dock in back, allowing float-in dining. Small appetizers and drinks are also served on the pier.
No reservations are accepted during peak dinner hours.
The restaurant is located near the bridge on the road to Horseneck Beach (Rte. 88).
Back Eddy came under new ownership in 2003.
Set smack dab on Horseneck Beach in trendy Westport---with plenty of deck seating to match---the Back Eddy combines the casual air of a clam shack with the creative cuisine of a city seafooder. No wonder the long lines contain sandal-clad urbanites and locals alike. Though East Coast Grill's Chris Schlesinger no longer owns the joint, his influence remains apparent in playful yet heat-packing, Caribbean- or Asian-tinged creations like mussels steamed with coconut milk, ginger and chilies. That said, you'll also find menu items reflecting a non-Schlesingerian restraint, including plenty of classically prepared New England seafood---raw, steamed and fried. By the way, if the wait is too much---and it often is---hit the pub for quicker grub.
