Z Restaurant Description:
This festive downtown spot's dining room tables are strewn with little toys and games from the 1970s and 1980s. The staff is quirky and upbeat and the food is simple, comfort fare with a creative edge in sizes meant to share. Queen Anne olives are stuffed with tender duck confit and goat's cheese, little gems of sweet and tart, or try Denver lamb ribs smoky with paprika and cooled with cucumber salad. Veal stroganoff is updated with veal cheeks, wild mushrooms, caramelized onions, herbed sour cream and a Madeira demi-glace over pappardelle and day boat scallops are jazzed up with a tangy yuzu-tamarind glaze with baby bok choy, shiitake mushrooms, crispy lotus root and slippery udon noodles. Finish with a spiked eggnog cream puff with gooey chocolate sauce or a twist on the banana split---it's served with a fudge brownie, a caramelized bourbon banana and almond brittle. Cocktails are a specialty here. Order the tasty Truth Beauty Rum, made with rum, chai tea, sweet cream butter and a spicy ginger syrup to start or finish your meal.
