Step into Marco and leave behind a mundane street scene, as the interior of this restaurant takes you by the hand to another dimension. Originally from Ancona, Italy, Nazario Filipponi named this establishment for a son, Marco. He tapped the talents of chef Dario Leo, from Puglia, Italy, to turn out dishes that are worthy of the home turf. Leo cures his own beef for the bresaola that may appear as an appetizer special. Occasional nods to Southern American fare include crispy fried oysters, but otherwise dishes generally are taken from the traditional canon. Leo believes in acquiring the best possible raw materials and treating them with respect, without over-handling them. Pastas are served al dente. The wine list represents Italy with generous allusions to all its regions, and a clear preference for reds dominates. California wines are chosen carefully, and include the rarely listed blended red Cyrus from Alexander Valley Vineyards.
