Special events and private parties are the stock-in-trade here, but the brunch remains its calling card. From eggs topped with apple bacon and hollandaise to pecan-smoked prime rib to a golden-fried soft sell crab, the menu is imaginative. If you want to feel like a real Southerner, linger over a mint julep or a bourbon milk punch before your meal. Benedict's is proof positive that New Orleans-style Italian and Creole cooking hasn't lost its following on Lake Pontchartrain's northern shore. The restaurant inhabits a charming old frame cottage just off U.S. Hwy. 190.
