Del Porto Restaurant Description:
It is not easy to get New Orleans residents to travel the 24-mile expanse of the Causeway from the city to the North Shore. That is, unless you have something special to offer, which Ristorante Del Porto definitely does. Del Porto is operated by chef-owners David and Torre Solazzo; they are adventurous to say the least. Their lasagna only retains ricotta as a traditional filling, but combines it with braised duck, crimini mushrooms and baby spinach. Perhaps you have not experienced the ultimate risotto until you try the Solazzos' spinach risotto with poached oysters and crispy house-cured and -smoked Italian bacon. But don't rush into anything here; start by selecting something from the antipasti menu, and by "something" we mean thin slices of roasted red pepper with goat cheese and fresh basil. Or sample the mussels, prepared Southern Italian style with spicy sausage, garlic, white wine, fresh herbs and tomatoes. Del Porto is cautious enough not to let herbs and spices overpower the food's natural flavors and aromas, but generous enough with its mixture of seasonings to let the diner experience something new.
