Acme Oyster House Description:
Until this place opened, North Shore resident had to travel the 24-mile-long Causeway to enjoy some of the best oysters in the area. Acme's Covington outpost may not have quite the cachet of the French Quarter flagship, but it is certainly easier to access and offers the same high-quality oysters and classic renditions of casual New Orleans favorites. Gumbo or red beans served in a bread bowl, known here as the Poopa, is a house specialty. Acme also offers what the menu dubs "Cajun sushi," with raw or fried oysters or fried shrimp topped with wasabi, Tabasco soy sauce, sticky rice and chopsticks. For a hearty appetite, try the Peacemaker, a combination of fried oysters and fried shrimp on French bread; it was originally known as La Mediatrice, so called as New Orleans husbands took it home to smooth things over with their wives after a night on the town.
