Shin Bbq Description:
You don't have to go to Koreatown anymore to get good authentic Korean barbecue now that Simon Shin has opened his sexy spot just a stone's throw from the Cahuenga Corridor. On the early side, savvy neighborhood couples and families gather for casual dinners (kids love to grill), morphing into a cool set of young hipsters later in the evening. Shin learned his skills growing up in his parents' Koreatown restaurants, but he brings a modern rock 'n' roll sensibility to this chic Hollywood spot with red walls, black banquettes, ambient lighting, and a dreamy jellyfish aquarium over the bar. No grill pressure here---DIY or let the kitchen do the work and relax with a cold Hite beer or pink lychee martini. Of the ample choice of meats, shrimp and veggies to sizzle on the sparkling smokeless grills, we like the bulgogi (marinated spencer steak) and the rich sliced pork belly. But Shin's Famous Ribs---juicy, marinated, bone-in prime rib---really steal the show with undeniably seductive flavor. Other classic Korean dishes are also compelling, especially the wickedly addictive kimchi fried rice. A pretty array of tiny banchan dishes accompany every meal, and there's a terrific $25 all-you-can-eat special nightly.
