Warner Ebbink and Brandon Boudet, the owners of West Hollywood's Dominick's, opened Little Dom's on Hillhurst Avenue, adding to the vibrant Los Feliz dining scene. The intimate two-room restaurant is charming and nostalgic, with stained glass windows, cozy red leather booths, a long bar crafted from restored wood and vintage light fixtures. Consistent with the Old Brooklyn look, the menu showcases classic dishes like Italian wedding soup, wood oven-baked ricotta and mushrooms with crostini, ravioli gnudi with spinach and ricotta, and spaghetti and meatballs. But don't pass on billiard ball-size rice balls oozing cheese, or a pretty roasted beet salad with high quality burrata. For entrées, consider grilled filet mignon tips with Barolo sauce and Parmesan mashed potatoes, or pleasantly salty whitefish piccata, generously strewn with plump capers, before finishing with a traditional torta della nonna. The wine list is a bit pricey for a place modeled after a neighborhood hangout, but a selection of half-bottles eases the pain.
