Farmer's Market Description:
Businessman Roger Dahlhjelm and advertising copywriter Fred Beck founded the Farmers Market in July 1934 on the site of the former Gilmore dairy. The location has hosted farmers and food vendors ever since. The L.A. landmark has had a resurgence thanks to the adjacent opening of The Grove. The over 100-vendor market offers plenty of opportunities for good noshing. Longtime favorites include The French Crêpe Company, Bob's Coffee & Doughnuts, The Gumbo Pot for quality Cajun fare, Loteria Grill for authentic Mexican cooking and Du-par's for homemade fruit pies. Moishe's features grilled kebabs and Mediterranean dips. Pampas Grill is a pay-by-the-pound Brazilian churrascaria. Singapore's Banana Leaf dispenses traditional Southeast Asian satays, curries and noodle dishes. Upstairs, Kado hosts teppan-style dining, a revolving sushi bar. With the good comes the bad. The market has also been invaded by decidedly non-farm-like chains such as Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, McDonald's-owned Chipotle and Pinkberry.
