The Coffee Table Cafe Description:
The works of Silver Lake artists hang on the blue and yellow walls of Mike Zamarripa's neighborhood comfort food emporium. The massive menu sustains locals for three meals a day. At breakfast, The Coffee Table produces a winning Greek omelet with spinach, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, feta and a topping of basil. For a more incendiary start to the day, order the Eggs from Hell---spicy scrambled eggs with cheese, black beans and salsa. Lunch features burgers, sandwiches and salads. Spicy corn chowder, potato leek, and chicken curry soups are much in demand, depending on their availability. At dinner, entrées include flank steak marinated in soy lime-garlic vinaigrette and pan-seared Cajun salmon with basmati rice and a "vegetable mélange." No matter what you order, don't neglect the flavorful scones, muffins and cookies. Coffee concoctions are also well prepared.

Review :
The Coffee Table is a laid-back neighborhood chill-spot even if it does feel a little weird, sort of like a doorway into the outer limits. On sunny days the back patio is a perfect place to enjoy the weather, eat some food, and talk about your next art installation with your friend or sit indoors at the fun happy mosaic tables and bright fiesta walls, or in the front patio outdoors to take in the street scene. If you order the big Green Burrito, your appetite is sure to be subdued. The bowl of tender fall apart meaty chili is great even though the kitchen seems to have a difficult time serving a garlic bread accompaniment. The server tried to convince me that rosemary muffin bread was their version of garlic bread until he finally relented and said they were out of garlic bread. Why didn’t you just say so? They’re all about the business of the kitchen so if you have come here expecting to be coddled and flashed one happy smile after another you will be disappointed. Remember, that’s the bright happy colored kaleidoscopic mosaic table’s job so look down and hypnotize yourself into a lovely world. Some improvement would be welcome in this area.
There are several veggie items to choose from including a bowl of veggie chili. The salads have disappointed in the past but are still worth a try. Beware of thick creamy dressings on most salads. The omelets are normally prepared well so try south of the Border. The veggie menu selections may be better, even for the carnivores. It is a coffee joint so putting all the food talk aside it is worth mentioning that the coffee is not spectacular. In fact, it can even have a burnt flavor to it.
It’s popular for dinner with the locals and I suggest leaving those hours to the Silver Lake & Glendale crew since it doesn’t really feel like a dinner destination so stick to the earlier hours of brunching and lunching and order the heartier fare and your table of food, coffee, tea and conversation will be okay.
To summarize: It’s a hit and miss joint depending on what you order.
