En Sushi Description:
The cheerful staff makes the artsy local crowd feel at home in a dining room filled with candle-topped tables and abstract art. At the busy sushi bar, chefs create impressive platters of sashimi, occasionally apologizing for a less than perfect toro that is nonetheless much better quality than what we're used to consuming at many neighborhood sushi bars. A salad of spinach and enoki mushrooms is redolent of sesame oil, and yellowtail carpaccio is drizzled with red pepper-ponzu sauce. One can ask for a California roll here, but the grilled sea bass with Saikyo miso or tender squid sushi---layered over a peppery oba leaf---are more interesting. Whimsical saké cocktails draw happy hour crowds into the lounge, and many end up staying for solid tempura, bowls of udon noodles or salmon teriyaki for dinner.
