Gallery owner Joseph Cordova opened this eatery specializing in Baja-style fish and shrimp tacos. Local artist Ed Cristal created an undersea feel, with colorful tile work that resembles a coral reef, teeming with hand-painted dorado. Cordova's crew delicately fries basa, a farm-raised white fish, which is flaky but firm. Both fish and shrimp sport sheer coats of batter. To dress the tacos, a well-stocked salsa bar is loaded with fiery options like Pineapple Kiss, Hot Guac and Mad Mango, plus cooling Crema Magica and tangy radish relish. To drink, the Central American-style horchata is a standout, flavored with freshly ground morro seeds, which impart a nutty flavor. Another of Cordova's artist friends, Carla Choy, occasionally bakes sweets; if available, try the peanut butter brownie coated with chocolate ganache or a flaky pineapple empanada.
