La Poubelle Restaurant & Bar Description:
French bistro w/ a twist of mediterranean--Also full tapas menu. Beer & Wine (great small international wine list) & full bar. Same owners and location for over 30 years. Romantic dinner for two or have a fun party. You can also rent the restaurant for the night and throw a big bash.
La Poubelle---which happens to mean trash can in French---is a genuine French neighborhood café, and the food, like the somewhat shabby décor, is basic and comforting. Interesting crêpes (e.g., duck confit with chai cream sauce) share a menu with classic bistro favorites: onion soup, escargots Bourguignon, steak au poivre and coq au vin, most of which are reliable, if hardly inspired. Service can have its issues, but La Poubelle's burger with frites is just the thing after a night of drinking, which happens to be a popular activity right here. La Poubelle is not the city's finest bistro, but what began as a modest crêperie in 1969 has outlasted most of the others. Part of the establishment's attraction is the neighborhood itself. This block of Franklin contains a delightfully quirky collection of cafés, boutiques and bookstores, and the restaurant's late hours are appreciated by local night owls.
