Via Condotti Description:
Claudio Pulze, whose restaurants have included Zafferano, Al Duca and Zaika, has something of the genius about him, taking sites which appear blighted, giving them a makeover (nothing too ambitious), and finding good chefs and a front-of-house team. Best of all, he insists on value for money. So it is hardly surprising that Via Condotti, named after Rome's famous shopping street and right in the middle of London's prime shopping area, is such a success. All the intense flavors of sunlit Italy appear in chef Andrea Francescato's dishes, like duck salad with potato, tomato confit and balsamic sauce; deep-fried calamari with green salad; tagliolini with fresh crab, tomatoes and sweet chilli; pan-fried calf's liver with white corn pearl polenta; and breaded veal escalope with rocket and tomato. Desserts are just as impressive and the all-Italian wine list delights at both ends of the scale or price. Service is professional.
