Vasco & Piero's Pavilion Description:
While the rest of London revels in having "discovered" Italian cooking, this establishment continues to turn out the same family-style food it has done for the last twenty years. While not exactly cutting-edge, it has a lead over many others. The style is Umbrian-based and uses only a few ingredients in each dish. So a salad of baby spinach and raw mushrooms comes with just olive oil and Pecorino; cured Umbrian loin of pork is accompanied by arugula and Parmesan. Pastas are first-rate; mains like grilled salmon with herbs and Umbrian lentils deliver just the right kind of punchy flavours. Desserts are of the chocolate fudge cake with vanilla ice cream topped with fudge sauce kind, and very good. The wine list is all Italian, does desserts a service and rewards the adventurous. Service is old-style Italian---warm, friendly and helpful---and you are encouraged, for a moment, to become part of the family. Set 2-course pre-theatre £19.50, set 2-course dinner £24.50, 3 courses £28.50.
