Quo Vadis Description:
In the remarkably skillful hands of the restaurateur brothers Sam and Eddie Hart, Quo Vadis just gets better. The two brothers came to fame with Fino and Barrafina then re-launched this old stager as an English grill room, smartening up but not changing the wooden-floored dining rooms with their wonderful opaque stained glass windows. They replaced the art on the walls but the main change is the cuisine. Jean-Philippe Patruno moved here from Fino and exchanged Spanish inspiration for thoroughly noteworthy, consistently reliable British food, often with a European twist. All the classics are here: rabbit, pigeon and foie gras terrine, house-smoked salmon, even the quintessentially British brown shrimps on toast for starters; and grilled rack of lamb and skate with capers and lemon for mains, and treacle tart or summer pudding in season. There's a good wine list with decent mark-ups; the initial service problems have been ironed out and the atmosphere is terrific. What more could anyone want? Perhaps the private members club upstairs for those who demand exclusivity? Set lunch and pre-theatre menu 2 courses £17.50, 3 courses £19.50.
