Quality Chop House Description:
The Victorian "working class caterer" is an old-fashioned restaurant with tiled floors, aged mirrors and wooden seating, which opened originally in the 1870s. In this posh caff Champagne or ale are equally at home, the seafood also runs the gamut from trad, gor-blimey fare like jellied eels, through potted shrimps and crab salad to upper-class seared scallops with creamed Jerusalem artichokes and bacon. Somewhere in the middle, battered, sustainable pollock comes with chips, and Barnsley pork chop with swede mash, all good stuff, typical of a place that cuts across class divisions and suits all sorts. Desserts run from hot chocolate fondant to rice pudding---what else? Set lunch Mon.-Fri. and pre- and post-theatre daily 2 courses £9.95.
