New Tayyab Description:
Tayyabs is just as good as ever, despite intense competition from other Brick Lane restaurants. Started in 1974 by the Tayyab family, it's expanded to meet the demand for its robust cooking. Go for the chicken, mutton or fish as kebabs or from the tandoor. The many curries are called karahis here, which is also the name of the metal pots in which they arrive. There are daily specials and intriguing vegetarian curries as well as dhals. Prices are very reasonable---around £20 for two. It's closed for the month of Ramadan. No alcohol is served, but you can bring your own. Otherwise drink salted, sweet or fruit lassi.
