Le Caprice Description:
Tucked down Arlington Street near to The Ritz is the sister of The Ivy, Le Caprice. This restaurant first opened in 1981.
In a changing world, it is places like Le Caprice that people come back to again and again. For 27 years, the restaurant has been doing its job well, greeting old customers by name, welcoming new ones in such a way that they feel instantly part of the family, and serving consistently good food, with no leanings towards more outré culinary ventures. There's a feeling of solid comfort and familiarity in the black-and-white décor with its once cutting edge photographs on the walls. Females arriving on their own and waiting for their fellow diners are treated with an old-fashioned courtesy. The bar where you can eat is a delight and just the place for meeting a friend. The cooking is contemporary European, simply conceived as in eggs Benedict, crispy duck and watercress salad, rump steak with pommes allumettes, chicken alla Milanese, salmon fishcakes. Nothing to shock, nothing to astound, just solidly reliable. The sophisticated wine list is not greedily priced and the service is exemplary. It should be; Jesus Adorno, who was here at the beginning, is now a director of the company and in charge. Pre- and post-theatre menu (only booked online) 2 courses £22.50, 3 courses £25.50.
