Cafe Japan Description:
The décor is basic and the Japanese pop music is rather noisy, but despite all this, the Japanese waitresses are friendly and efficient. Sit at the sushi and yakitori bar or at plain wooden tables. The style is neither haute cuisine nor rough and ready, still less fast food but offers very reasonable prices for generous portions. There is much of the standard Japanese repertoire---sashimi, sushi, yakitori, tempura and robatayaki grills and it's very well done. The sushi menu displays the one hint of Westernisation---sushi rolls with mayonnaise---although they would not be out of place in modern Tokyo. Set lunch £8.50; set dinners £12-£17.
