Boisdale Description:
The menu proudly claims beef, lamb, game, salmon and shellfish sourced direct from Scotland. The cooking is mostly traditional so this is the place to try much-loved dishes such as Scottish oysters, wild smoked salmon and haggis, of course (and order the noggin of whisky to go with it). Central to all is glorious British beef served in a number of sizes and cuts with different accompaniments. The long wine list is supplemented by separate lists of hundreds of malt whiskies, of cocktails and cigars, which can be smoked at the outdoors bar to much discussion on the evils of banning smoking from die-hard traditionalists. The main feature of the décor is the collection of paintings and prints covering every subject and period. There's live jazz on offer every night and the whole place is suffused with the presence of the eccentric owner, Ranald Macdonald. The Flying Scotsman set lunch is £12.50; set 2-course Jacobite Menu is an eccentric £18.70.
