The Guinea is something of an institution, having been around as a grill since 1952 in a pub that has been around much longer. It's seen fashions come and go, but there's always place for good British beef and this is one of the best places to try it. The restaurant is comfortably clubby and old-fashioned, the 28-day cured beef cooked as you request it. Starters are just the right kind of classics: oysters, smoked salmon, soups; mains run from fish to lamb and game. For another British treat, order the steak and kidney pie. Good wine list, professional old-fashioned service.
