Seven Park Place by William Drabble Description:
The small gem of a hotel in St. James's that was expensively refurbished as part of the Althoff Hotel Collection has grabbed William Drabble, previously at Aubergine, as its chef for its new restaurant. The décor remains the same---a series of small rooms decorated with silks, wood and touches of chinoiserie. Drabble is a very good chef, underrated because he is relatively unknown. Perhaps this will raise his profile. His cooking is spot on, from the amuse-gueule of seared tuna with avocado and basil to dishes like his signature lobster tortellini with roast cauliflower and truffle butter sauce, to beautifully cooked red mullet, to an assiette of veal. Desserts follow the theme of British ingredients cooked with skill, as in apple mousse with blackberry jelly. The wine list is very expensive and could do with some more modest mark ups, but this is unashamedly posh dining. Set 2-course lunch £24.50.
